We recommended a lot of books for our listener Lindsay (and you) to read, as well as suggesting several to give as gifts this holiday season. We could have listed dozens more.
To save your writin' hands from cramps and your thinkin' brain from same, we created a virtual bookshelf on Powell's. It contains the books we recommended (and that Infinite Infinite Jest Guest Anne recommended) on the podcast and others we cut for time. You'll find dystopia, literary/historical nonfiction, literary/hysterical fiction, science writing, memoir, sci-fi, and...what's that? NO DUDES.
At the bottom of the bookshelf, I tagged in a couple suggested gift books. Pete Souza was allowed in, because he's amazing, and because his book is mostly photos instead of opinions. We will allow it.
Where possible, we chose used copies and cheaper editions (sometimes the hardcover is miraculously less expensive, because it's been out so long), or we chose the version with Caitlin's favorite cover, even though she knows that's no guarantee that's the cover that arrives. Please also note that the linked version of Wolf Hall is an audio book, because that's the version Caitlin "read," and it's great for long commutes. If a link doesn't work, it's possible that edition sold out, but I bet there are more, a quick search should turn something up. Or, note the book(s) you're into checking out first and hit up your local library. We can't all be big spenders, some of us must be belts.
Also, if you were intrigued by the idea of giving the gift of a literary or poetry journal, NewPages is a great place to sort through your options. You can filter by genre as well as medium. Enjoy!
Go forth and get yourself some kick-ass literature, friends. It's the greatest love of all.
